Now that summer is coming to a close, and it’s been a while since I’ve written something, I figured I’d write about what I’ve been up to over my summer break.
To start off my summer, I got to enjoy spending a week at my boyfriend’s house where we hung out and had fun. While I was over, I went for a nice hefty walk around the city, snapping lots of photos as I went. (Just a warning that there are lots of photos so this’ll probably end up being a lot of scrolling!)
Day 1
This lot of photos was just us meeting up at Niagara Falls and spending some time there, nothing too exciting. (photo-wise, at least!)
Day 2
This is the day I spent walking. Somehow, despite losing the sunscreen during, I made it out without major sunburn! (This is surprising since I tend to be bad at not getting sunburns)
I’m pretty certain I saw ICE agents today too, which definitely freaked me out given that I am not an American lol (dont worry I didn’t interact with them luckily)
I started by walking around downtown for a few hours, before resting and heading off to walk to my boyfriend’s work. It was quite a trek that amounted to about 20km if I remember correctly?
Day 3
On day 3 we went to a 4th of July event (notably 4 days early) at an abandoned mall nearby, and it was probably one of the most American things I have ever experienced. It was kinda like underscores’ music video for Locals (Girls like us) if it was far more suburban. (Still cool though!)
I thought it’d be cool to take the photos of the actual event on my boyfriend’s shitty digicam rather than my DSLR, and it definitely had fun results and I feel like portrays the sort of vibe I was going for.
Day 4
I didn’t grab any photos on day 4, since we had just gone to the mall to walk around for a bit (yes by this point I was still a tad sore from day 2.) I think among the more exciting things this day is that I bought C418’s Volume Alpha and Volume Beta on CD! (I also mildly celebrated Canada Day, which is only worth mentioning because it is funny to do so while in the US)
Day 5
Day 5 was just a chill day, went to Goodwill, saw some mildly weird stuff (but not much, the conclusion I drew is that American Goodwills are just kinda lame compared to our Canadian ones), then went to Target for snacks and stuff. We got a box of “Simply NKD” chips, which I had never seen before (and I don’t think we’ve gotten them yet up here in Canada), but they were pretty yummy! They’re pretty much just the usual chips, just without the artificial flavours or any dye. My best comparison is for the Doritos; They’re like if you took normal tortilla chips and simply added the flavouring of normal Doritos.
Day 6
Another chill day, we stayed in and hung out. We had did however end it with a cosy movie night, where we watched The Lego Batman Movie with one of our large blåhajar each, as well our child, Pudding the American Marten (there’s a story behind that but thats not what this article is about!)
Day 7
The 4th of July rolls around, and it’s the last full day of the trip. We just kinda hang out for the first bit of it, then later in the day we had a photoshoot session! For New Years earlier this year when I was over, I got my boyfriend to pose for a few funny photos, so this time we did some more proper ones! I’m not going to include them without asking (as cute as some of them were :3), but it was Day 7’s main event I’d say! After that, we waited for it to get dark so we could sit out back at the fire table and relax. With lots of fireworks going off in the background we made some s’mores, cuddled, and just had a nice time. It was an amazing end to the trip and definitely helped with the sadness that was inevitably going to happen.
For the rest of the summer I didn’t get up to terribly much, but it was nice and relaxing if I’m being honest. I spent two weeks playing Rimworld all day, then a bit later I spent some time playing more Kerbal Space Program, then over the past two weeks I’ve been hooked on Pokemon Platinum (So far my favourite Pokemon game!). Fiddled around with my networking gear, messed with my computers. The usual sort of stuff one could expect me to get up to.
I worked on a small project for my boyfriend that I’ve yet to send him yet, even though it’s already done and ready (I haven’t mentioned it at all yet, so surprise Campbell! I promise I’ll send it soon, it’ll be embarrassing if it takes me until next time we meet), so that was fun to do for a bit.
I cleaned my desk and had a project idea in early August, that being to build what essentially mounts to a desk expansion to get rid of the damn mini fridge I don’t want in my room. Of course, I’ve sort of become a master of projects that I’ll never do (or finish if I start), so who knows if and when I’ll get to it. I’m hoping that because I’m about to start college (tomorrow, as a matter of fact!) and it pertains to my workspace, I’ll get to it sooner rather than never.
Other than a trip to the Zoo the other day, I don’t really have many photos to share or anything more to add, so I think on that note that’s the end of the post! I’m happy that I finally sat down and wrote something for once.
